About Us Admissions Our Community FAQS Support Archway

  Where Do Your Dollars Go?

Listed below are a few examples of how your gift to our annual campaign translates into helping Archway students, their families, and our community.

$25,000 ~ Enables Archway Academy to host the only "Sober College Day and College Fair" in the country! Colleges and universities from around the country that have sober dorms and/or support programs will send representatives, and all teenagers, their parents and professionals who are involved in recovery programs around Houston, are invited to attend.

$15,000 ~ Allows Archway to purchase the equipment and curriculum necessary to participate in Literacy through Photography™. This would provide our students with a much-needed means for artistic self-expression, which is so critical to the recovery process.

$10,000 ~ Underwrites the cost of the first-day-of-the-semester "ropes course" trip, where the entire student body, faculty and staff spend the day together off-campus, performing important team building activities that allow the community to develop mutual respect and trust.

$8,500 ~ Provides a full scholarship for one student for one school year.

$5,000 ~ Affords Archway Academy the opportunity to invite renowned speakers, like Koren Zailckas, to visit our students and be featured at our annual luncheon.

$2,500 ~ Covers the cost of transportation, hotel stay and registration for one Archway staff member to attend the annual Association of Recovery Schools (ARS) Conference in July, to learn about best practices and share ideas with recovery high school professionals from around the country.

$1,000 ~ Purchases one student computer with software and technical support.

$500 ~ Helps to support a college research trip for one student.

$250 ~ Pays for one school bus to transport the students on a field trip.

$125 ~ Subsidizes one fun, Friday Fill-Up activity.

$100 ~ Defrays the cost of supplies (paper, notebooks, pens and pencils) for one student for one semester.

THE NEED FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

The quotations below are from requests (edited for anonymity) made by Archway Academy families in need of financial aid.  Your support will assist individuals like these.

"I have a total of $1,000 to work with concerning my daughter per month and that must cover meds, psychiatrist, psychologist, and private schooling if this works! (God willing)."

"Medical expenses are, by far, my single most burdensome issue. I am still paying off a debt for residential substance abuse treatment for my son. and residual expenses for two surgeries I had that same year. I will also be anticipating a bill from a hospitalization in January of this year for my son, secondary to his drug use. In addition, my son has bi-polar disorder with associated psychiatry bills, medications and labs, as well as weekly counseling expenses. I pay the portion of health insurance premiums not paid by my employer. Together, these costs represent a large share of my income."

"I am recently divorced and my son came to live with me in June of this year, so I have not yet been able to claim him as my dependent. I am not receiving any child support. I have used up family resources, as my family contributed generously to my son's stay at an in-patient rehab facility, and they can do no more..His father insists he can't and won't pay for my son's education. My son.spent seven months at the rehab facility and completed ½ credit there."

"I re-financed my mortgage in 2004.  I had to pay for in-patient care at two drug treatment facilities."
